Wine Tasting + 2 Girlfriends = Realization That I Am Not Alone

What prompted me to start a blog? My two girlfriends did. Every spring the three of us schedule a girl's weekend. Our trips are never as extreme as those depicted in the Sex and the City movies. However, our personal revelations are just as poignant each year.

This year we chose a wine tasting expedition in Temecula. We did the responsible thing and hired a car service to traipse us from one winery to another. As expected, the giggles ensued and grew as the afternoon wore on. Our first winery schooled us in the qualities of a 1st pressed grape versus 3rd and 4th pressed grapes. Two buck chuck from Trader Joes for instance is more than likely a multiple pressed variety and the flavor of the grape is smoothed out for a less sophisticated pallet. All three of us were eager to learn more. My first clue that my new found obsession with food and drink was not a solo affair.

Later at dinner we revealed our latest obsessions to each other.  Unbeknownst to the other, we three had become equally obsessed with food, the quality of it, the lack of regulation, what it meant to our families's health, etc.  I loved the experience of rediscovering our bond once again.

The beauty of spending long periods of quality time with your friends is you have the time to ponder(plan), dream (create), evaluate (taste) and appreciate (a fine meal) your shared experiences.

My girlfriends, our comarderie provides such support.  Luckily we have the opportunity to steal away so that we can remind ourselves how our friendship provides us the essential nutrients of our lives.   Everything is truly in its place.
